Kährs (Nybro, Sweden) debuted the first hardwood floor in the world from dual certified FSC and Fairtrade timber at Almedalsveckan (Politicians Week) at Visby, Gotland at Saint Katarina's Church with SKTF and Fairtrade Sweden sponsoring the event. Kährs will be offering four FSC and Fairtrade products in its World Collection in 2012 according to Bruce Uhler, the company's environmental ambassador.
Whereas the FSC certification promotes responsible forest management along with social, health and safety requirements, Fairtrade ensures small-scale workers in developing nations are fairly compensated for their products.
